Crafting and Mindfulness for Children

Crafting with your kids is a wonderful way to introduce mindfulness to children. This week, I am sharing a simple origami craft that is relatively well-known, the humble paper boat (which can also double as a paper hat -- see below for a link to a fun handout featuring yoga-based games to play with paper hats).

After crafting, which is a form of meditation in itself, introduce Belly Boat breath to help children learn to regulate their breath and access deep, slow, calm belly breaths. Breathing made fun = learning made fun. Breathing made fun with something your child has made and invested their energy and creativity into = a tool they can keep and access anytime they need it.

Have fun with it. And let me know what you (and your kids, students, clients) thought of this activity.

Love,

Lisa Roberts
