The following article on Axios recently found its way into my inbox and I could not agree more with its angle on the benefits - and importance - of introducing meditation to children as a coping mechanism, and, frankly, critical life skill.
It's a quick read, and I highly recommend taking a look at it: https://www.axios.com/newsletters/axios-finish-line-b2799c60-543c-11ef-b8c8-a9a21071342f.html?chunk=1&utm_term=emshare#story1
Acknowledging that meditation is good for kids is the easy part, engaging kids in developmentally appropriate meditation skills and building on those skills as they mature can be slightly more challenging. I've spent my 15+ year career working with children and families (as well as training educators and pediatric professionals) and have developed oodles of wonderful free and low-cost resources to support parents and professionals.
The following list of resources contain all you will need to get started, and successfully teach children and teens meditation. Scroll down and follow the links to color printable handouts, guided meditation/relaxation recordings (MP3 format), and books -- as well as two FREE educational webinars.
And psst.... while you're exploring the various methods to find what works for your kids, you might just find a method that works for you too!
Happy meditating!
